1) Lulwa Al Amin
Known for: quirky designs and vibrant prints
Claim to fame: has worked with the “the” Mathew Williamson
Lulwa Al Amin, known for her vibrant colors and distinctive prints is one designer that ladies gravitate towards. With her clothes having quirky names like the Jello Wagon, Moon Kids, Jello Pie Pants, and Cactus among other things; she has carved out a niche for herself. Her shop, based in London, was founded in 2010 and her first collection was launched a year after. This entrepreneur is continually adding stores to her stockists. Known for: construction and deconstruction of garments
Claim to fame: launched their collection in Paris Fashion Week
AKS is the namesake Bahraini brand of Amna and Asma Khaled Saif, who launched their Ready to Wear collection in the hopes that the Middle East would be noticed. Both of them are self-taught with a passion for the French Art Deco era which shows in their designs. They have successfully fused two distinct styles in their brand: the classic, tailored wardrobe infused with wrapped, knotted, and oversized pieces from the urban, street wear wardrobe.
3) Hala Kaiksow
Known for: culturally inspired garments
Claim to fame: graduated with a Master of Collection Design from Polimoda
Hala takes inspiration from a time when occupation and cultural origins gave clothes an unwavering identity. Re-appropriating work-wear and traditional garments into a contemporary context, she elevates wearable art through a play on materiality.
4) Amal Almulla
Known for: feminine, wearable pieces with edge
Claim to fame: her clothes are carried by top international stockists like Grain and #Notjustalabel
Amal Almulla, a Filipino Bahraini fashion designer studied fashion at the Royal University for Women in Bahrain. Her clothes are inspired by nature and escapism and a decidedly rebellious feel to it. There is always soft against a very thick backdrop, and fluidity versus structure.
5) Sara Albinmohamed
Known for: ballerina couture
Claim to fame: opened up a shop in Riyadat Mall
Ballerina Couture is a high-end fashion brand with a ready-to-wear apparel line. The designs are bold and modern with a traditional twist; using delicate embroidery work called Zari. Zari embroidery uses a combination of gold and silver threads for a distinctive look. Ballerina Couture is available now in Riyadat Mall.
6) Noon by Noor
Known for: modern and effortless clothes with delicate embellishments
Claim to fame: has already presented their collections in New York Fashion Week
Fusing understated luxury with a playful femininity, Noon by Noor’s clothes has an emphasis on sharp tailoring, clean silhouettes, and attention to detail. Noon by Noor is the first ever GCC brand to be invited by IMG to present at New York Fashion Week. Their clothes have been seen on Jennifer Lopez, Solange Knowles, Alexa Chung, Kate Bosworth, Olivia Palermo, Blake Lively, Miroslava Duma, and Katy Perry to name a few.
7) Hind Matar
Known for: delicate dresses with a touch of rebellion
Claim to fame: won the Fashion Prize 2015
Hind creates clothes for the ageless, fearless, and effortless woman. Debuting her first collection during the S/S 2014 season, Hind Matar launched MATAR at the London Fashion Week Designer Showrooms in Somerset House, which is just awesome.
